Are You Irish?

Shamrock Onesie/Leg Warmer Set
It may be Valentine's Day, but I've already set my sights on the next big celebration! You probably have guessed what I'm referring to...as the saying goes..."Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!"  Is this true for you? If so, and if you live in or near St. Louis, then you really have the luck of the Irish because we celebrate St. Patty's Day not just once, but twice! The city hosts festivities each year on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) hosts another celebration on March 17th, the real St. Pat's Day.  The St. Louis celebration begins on Saturday at the Top of the Morn with a 5 mile run/walk event that winds through the downtown region. Then at 12 noon come "rain or shine" the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade begins with its approximate 120 units including marching bands, floats, character balloons, and family clans.  Irish entertainment continues throughout the day at a special "Irish Village" set up in the midst of all the activity.  Then after recovering from all the excitement, food, and drink it's time to gear up for the next big St. Patty's Day celebration!  On the actual feast day of St. Patrick, March 17th, the AOH hosts another fabulous parade that occurs in the Irish neighborhood of St. Louis affectionately known as Dogtown.  The residents of Dogtown consider their community "a province of the Republic of Ireland."  The St. Patrick's Day Parade has a neighborly touch with lots of Irish dancing, bands, and family units marching proudly and displaying their family crests. Booths with food and drink can be found along the route with traditional servings of corned beef, cabbage, and beer in abundance. It's truly a day to celebrate family and its Irish heritage. So if you are needing some family apparel for the festivities, Zoey's Attic is here to help with custom Irish shirts for all your St. Patty's Day needs. Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day too!

Birth Announcement Pillows

Let's just be honest here. We all know as our families grow, our
lives become ever more complicated, and yes it is easy to forget certain things we never imagined we wouldn't remember forever. Sadly, I'm referring to the details of certain life changing events like the births of our children. Of course we will always (let's hope!) recall the actual date of birth. But, if I'm going to be brutally honest here, it isn't always so easy to remember all the specifics including the actual time down to the minute, exact length, and exact weight of each child. Is it bad if I can only remember that my daughter was born in the early evening hours and need a reminder that the actual time was 5:28 p.m.?  You know, life is so hectic at times that I really can't beat up on myself over the fact that I am human and can't remember everything! So here's a solution (a cheat sheet, if you will), a birth announcement pillow for every new addition to the family. These adorably sentimental throw pillows from Zoey's Attic with all the pertinent facts make me look like a genius! They make great gifts too and can be custom made to match your nursery or child's room color and theme. Loving this great idea, the perfect keepsake!

Memories

Big brother caterpillar pregnancy announcement shirt
The author, Eric Carle, has written
and illustrated numerous children's books, and one of my favorites is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  Like other books written by Carle such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?," "Have You Seen My Cat?," and "The Grouchy Ladybug," his colorful collage illustrations are beautifully bold and vivid.  "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" holds a special place in my heart as it returns me to such happy times sitting on one of my parent's lap while listening to the story of the caterpillar who ate and ate, progessed to the cocoon stage, and finally transformed into a beautiful butterfly.  As I sat comforted by their storytelling I was also learning about the days of the week, counting, good nutrition and so much more!  As a child we even caught caterpillars so we could observe in "real-time" their amazing metamorphosis from cocoon to butterly.  So, maybe you and your children are as much of a fan of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" as I am, and if so why not have this as the theme of your next birthday party?  Zoey's Attic has adorable caterpillar shirts, bibs, and leg warmer sets.  And, if you want a fun caterpillar secret pregnancy announcement shirt, we've got that too! Isn't it wonderful that the books we enjoyed as children, we are now sharing with our little ones?  Making memories is so precious and time well spent!

Super Sunday

Are you as excited as I am for Super Bowl XLVII?  This year it's being played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA!  If you've never been to New Orleans, make sure you do someday!  The city and it's people are fantastic!  Just wish I had a few tickets for gameday!  Well, I don't see that happening so I will have to enjoy it from my own home which isn't all that bad!  Family and friends will gather for any excuse to eat, eat, eat and of course, watch some football.  This year the Baltimore Ravens will be playing the San Francisco 49ers for the championship title.  Did you know the Ravens' name was inspired by the author Edgar Allen Poe?  Poe was living in Baltimore when his most famous poem, "The Raven" was published.  The Ravens' last Super Bowl appearance was on January 28, 2001 when they scored a 34-7 victory over the New York Giants.  The Ravens' opponent on February 3rd, the San Francisco 49ers' name was inspired by gold prospectors who arrived in Northern California around 1849 during the California Gold Rush.  Ironically, Edgar Allen Poe died the same year in Baltimore.  The 49ers will make its 6th appearance in franchise history at this year's Super Bowl, having won all five times previously.  So who will you be rooting for on Sunday, February 3rd?  We've got a mixed bag of fans, young and old, joining us for the day.  Some will be sporting red, gold, and white shirts favoring the 49ers, while others will be wearing the Ravens' purple, black, gold, and white.  Zoey's Attic has just the perfect football shirts for the kiddos for gameday, and any shirt design can be customized with your favorite team's colors too.

Sharing Our Love

Valentine Shirts from Zoey's Attic Personalized Gifts

Can you believe it's already mid January, and I've already been gifted with not one, but two bouts of the flu bug? Guess I wasn't in the 62% of the population for which the vaccine will work. Anyway, I'm feeling so much better now, but I haven't really thought much about Valentine's Day and it's only four weeks away! I have always loved Valentine's Day and as a child I especially enjoyed the school parties the room mothers planned for us on this special day. Everyone in our school had carefully written out their Valentine cards to share, the moms planned games for us, and of course we snacked on specially prepared cupcakes and candies during the party. Mom also dressed us in the appropriate holiday shirt for every occasion, and I too love dressing the kiddos in just the perfect outfit for all the Valentine festivities. So if you are looking for a super cute personalized shirt for your little Valentine you might want to look over the selection at Zoey's Attic. We also have new and adorable onesies with matching leg warmers for the baby and so, so sweet pregnancy announcement tees too. It's so much fun now as a parent to experience the excitement of the children on any holiday but especially sharing our love on Valentine's Day.

Happy New Year!

Wow, it just seems like we were anxiously awaiting the Millenium, and now it's already the last day of 2012! Do you remember the Y2K frenzy? And, nothing happened at all! Lots has changed for all of us both personally and professionally since January 1, 2000. Today, thanks to so many amazing advancing technologies, we are all socially connected too! Facebook was launched in 2004, Twitter was created in 2006, and Pinterest started consuming my life in 2011! Life is great!  All of us here at Zoey's Attic and Zoey's Attic Personalized Gifts, wish all of you a very safe, healthy, and Happy New Year!
