Easy Valentine's Day Cards

Now that you've created the perfect Valentine's Day card holder we need to start thinking about the "Be Mine" cards for our family and friends! In our home we try to make homemade cards for family and the closest of friends.  Kiddos love stickers, so for the preschoolers it's so easy to simply use a piece of construction paper and stickers and then have them print their name on the their masterpiece.

The little ones in our family love making a mess with paint! Finger painting a heart shaped cutout is definitely a fun activity and will make the sweetest personal Valentine's Day card for mommy, daddy, grandma or grandpa. These are just a few ideas for homemade Valentine's Day cards. So, if you're running out of time you can always pick up a package of totally awesome cards at your local Target, Walmart, or Dollar General store. Here's a store bought Valentine I received from my Daddy many moons ago...

When I was a young school girl and in the primary grades, our room mothers hosted holiday parties to celebrate Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. And if our St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team made it to the playoffs or World Series we had game watch parties at school to cheer on our hometown baseball club. The school I attended required the students to wear uniforms. Mine was a green and black plaid jumper with a white pointed collared shirt, either short or long sleeve. The boys wore black belted navy blue pants and also a white pointed collared shirt. The uniform shirt was made of 100% cotton which required ironing before it could be worn in public. So Sunday evenings were set aside for ironing all the shirts that would be needed for the family for the entire week ahead. My mom (and me too!) were so thankful when the cotton blend permanent press shirts made the scene in the local department stores. So luckily for me now that I'm all grown up I rarely have to iron anything! I do, of course, own an ironing board and deluxe steam iron, but they sure get a lot less use than the ones we had when I was a little girl!
On our holiday party days at school we were given an out-of-uniform day. This meant we could wear a special outfit of our choosing. I remember as a child making our party shirts at the kitchen table the weekend before a scheduled holiday party. Mom bought basic white t-shirts and fabric paints and helped us make our very own special creation to wear for the festivities. Hmmm... maybe this was actually the beginning of Zoey's Attic! The popular song "All You Need Is Love" is credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership and was first performed live in 1967 by The Beatles.  John Lennon was lead singer and background vocals were sung by Paul McCartney and George Harrison. I am from the era that considered The Beatles to be the absolute best in the music industry, and also feel very fortunate that I was able to attend Paul McCartney's "On The Run Tour" concert when it played at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis in November 2012.  The set list featured various love songs including "All My Loving," "And I Love Her," followed by "My Valentine." Zoey's Attic has a new "All you need is love, love is all you need" design t-shirt and I sure wish it had been available back in 2012.  It would have been perfect to wear to the concert!  Anyway, that's what Valentine's Day is all about...LOVE! Can you believe it's already mid January, and I've already been gifted with not one, but two bouts of the flu bug? Guess I wasn't in the 62% of the population for which the vaccine will work. Anyway, I'm feeling so much better now, but I haven't really thought much about Valentine's Day and it's only four weeks away! I have always loved Valentine's Day and as a child I especially enjoyed the school parties the room mothers planned for us on this special day. Everyone in our school had carefully written out their Valentine cards to share, the moms planned games for us, and of course we snacked on specially prepared cupcakes and candies during the party. Mom also dressed us in the appropriate holiday shirt for every occasion, and I too love dressing the kiddos in just the perfect outfit for all the Valentine festivities. I mean, seriously, how cute is that?

Yes, I design shirts and yes, I like to make money designing shirts, but really - really why do I do this? Cause I know personally how much fun it is to see your little one in an adorable shirt announcing your family is expanding.

Now, if you know me in real life, rest assured, my family isn't growing again any time soon, BUT I thought this shirt was too cute not to model my babygirl (who's almost 2 1/2 now!) in it during a recent cupcake baking and decorating session! Think how fun that would be to email to friends and family and see if they figure it out or have your little one wear a pregnancy announcement t-shirt to a family birthday party, gathering, etc... I just love the element of surprise and better yet, the look on everyone's face when they figure it out!

Valentine's Day Pregnancy Announcements

It's that time of year - hearts, candy, roses and more! Did you just find out an extra special Valentine's day surprise?
