When I was a young school girl and in the primary grades, our room mothers hosted holiday parties to celebrate Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. And if our St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team made it to the playoffs or World Series we had game watch parties at school to cheer on our hometown baseball club. The school I attended required the students to wear uniforms. Mine was a green and black plaid jumper with a white pointed collared shirt, either short or long sleeve. The boys wore black belted navy blue pants and also a white pointed collared shirt. The uniform shirt was made of 100% cotton which required ironing before it could be worn in public. So Sunday evenings were set aside for ironing all the shirts that would be needed for the family for the entire week ahead. My mom (and me too!) were so thankful when the cotton blend permanent press shirts made the scene in the local department stores. So luckily for me now that I'm all grown up I rarely have to iron anything! I do, of course, own an ironing board and deluxe steam iron, but they sure get a lot less use than the ones we had when I was a little girl!
On our holiday party days at school we were given an out-of-uniform day. This meant we could wear a special outfit of our choosing. I remember as a child making our party shirts at the kitchen table the weekend before a scheduled holiday party. Mom bought basic white t-shirts and fabric paints and helped us make our very own special creation to wear for the festivities. Hmmm... maybe this was actually the beginning of Zoey's Attic! Fun Maternity Tees

Back in the olden days when I was having babies the maternity styles were..well let's just say they weren't very stylish! You either wore your baby daddy's big boxy tee or the typical tent shaped maternity top. The maternity shirts were mostly made of cotton and plaid was very popular! The top was made to hide the enlarging baby bump as well as the elastic waist band on the  maternity pants.  A casual work wardrobe was a no-no in those days so we also had to purchase or make our own maternity dresses. The outline for the dress was also the flared tent pattern.  A newer drop waist style was also a possibility. The long torso portion of the dress bloused over the baby bump with an elastic band situated just beneath the pregnant belly. My contemporaries would never have guessed it would one day become fashionable to wear figure flattering maternity apparel! What I would have given to have worn such fun and comfy maternity tees as the ones designed by Zoey's Attic!  It's also the norm nowadays to make a special pregnancy announcement wearing one of these adorable t-shirts! And what is this gender reveal all about? I have always been fascinated by giraffes! They somehow manage to walk along with such grace, and it's truly admirable considering they typically stand about 16-20 feet tall! Rockstar Birthday Boy Tshirt

My inner rockstar self has taken great delight in watching American Idol since Season One.  I must admit I was worried when Simon Cowell left the show, but was surprisingly very happy with the additions of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez! These two stars renewed my interest in a show that had gotten a little stale for me.  I'm not so happy with the current Season 12. I have enjoyed the singers for the most part, but there has been a little too much country for me.  I really prefer the tempo of rock music (true confession..my all-time favorite Idol contestant is Bo Bice from Season 4). Anyway, the divas currently judging make it uncomfortable to watch, and Randy is just too predictable. I have, however, found a new appreciation for Keith Urban and his music.  He seems like a very nice fellow.  Another favorite show is The Voice. Well, my interest may actually be fueled by my crush on Adam Levine of Maroon 5. I'm not usually into guys with lots of tattoos, but he's a real cutie-patootie! I'm also an Usher fan so Season 4 has been lots of fun for me! Now we can look forward to the season finales of these two shows. So, there's plenty of time for all future rockstars to get the perfect rockstar tee for the big events! The author, Eric Carle, has written
and illustrated numerous children's books, and one of my favorites is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  Like other books written by Carle such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?," "Have You Seen My Cat?," and "The Grouchy Ladybug," his colorful collage illustrations are beautifully bold and vivid.  "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" holds a special place in my heart as it returns me to such happy times sitting on one of my parent's lap while listening to the story of the caterpillar who ate and ate, progessed to the cocoon stage, and finally transformed into a beautiful butterfly.  As I sat comforted by their storytelling I was also learning about the days of the week, counting, good nutrition and so much more!  As a child we even caught caterpillars so we could observe in "real-time" their amazing metamorphosis from cocoon to butterly.  So, maybe you and your children are as much of a fan of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" as I am, and if so why not have this as the theme of your next birthday party?  Zoey's Attic has adorable caterpillar shirts, bibs, and leg warmer sets.  And, if you want a fun caterpillar secret pregnancy announcement shirt, we've got that too! Isn't it wonderful that the books we enjoyed as children, we are now sharing with our little ones?  Making memories is so precious and time well spent!

Give Thanks

Personalized Thanksgiving Day Shirts

Thanksgiving is observed in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November each year. This year's celebration will take place on November 22nd. I have always loved Thanksgiving since I was a small child. Preparations began on Thanksgiving Eve when I would help my mom make her special stuffing for the turkey. My job was to toast the four loaves of bread needed to make the dressing. The toasted bread would then be torn into small cubes and simmered in herbs and spices. Onions, celery, and sausage would be added to make the best turkey dressing ever! The mouthwatering smell would permeate the house all night long and into the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day. What could possibly be better than watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade while snuggled on the couch in my pj's and savoring the smell of the turkey roasting in the oven? Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins would begin to arrive in the late afternoon for a large family gathering and shared meal. Oh such special memories of times past! Everyone would dress in adorable Thanksgiving attire and heartwarming family stories would be told... some old, some new. Some Thanksgiving Day celebrations even included the joyous news that a new little turkey would be joining the family! "Use a card to announce the sex of the baby. The card can be sent from the big brother/sister. "I'm a big brother-to-be of a little sister/brother." My 20 wk ultrasound is next week and I'm looking for a cute fun way to announce the sex to my friends that live in different states."
