Everyone Loves A Tractor!

 

Oh so many years ago, when I was a kiddo myself, my family spent many Spring and Summer weekends at our cousin's clubhouse on the Meramec River in Eureka, MO. The house had a large wrap around screened in porch and it was lined with one cot after another where all of the kid cousins slept. We, also, did not have indoor plumbing at the "country" home, and it was somewhat frightening using the outhouse during the darkness of the night. By day we would picnic on the sandbar, swim and float the river. In the evenings we would barbeque and then eat the homemade ice cream we had made earlier in the day. The clubhouse was bordered on three sides by farm land. The cornfields were especially fun for playing hide and seek as they provided many avenues for hiding! Soybeans and wheat were planted in the adjacent fields. Everyone loved riding on the combines and tractors when the fields were plowed or the crops were being harvested. I really miss the innocence of these childhood days and love to reflect on the many happy memories of days gone by spent at the clubhouse on the farm. The author, Eric Carle, has written
and illustrated numerous children's books, and one of my favorites is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  Like other books written by Carle such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?," "Have You Seen My Cat?," and "The Grouchy Ladybug," his colorful collage illustrations are beautifully bold and vivid.  "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" holds a special place in my heart as it returns me to such happy times sitting on one of my parent's lap while listening to the story of the caterpillar who ate and ate, progessed to the cocoon stage, and finally transformed into a beautiful butterfly.  As I sat comforted by their storytelling I was also learning about the days of the week, counting, good nutrition and so much more!  As a child we even caught caterpillars so we could observe in "real-time" their amazing metamorphosis from cocoon to butterly.  So, maybe you and your children are as much of a fan of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" as I am, and if so why not have this as the theme of your next birthday party?  Zoey's Attic has adorable caterpillar shirts, bibs, and leg warmer sets.  And, if you want a fun caterpillar secret pregnancy announcement shirt, we've got that too! Isn't it wonderful that the books we enjoyed as children, we are now sharing with our little ones?  Making memories is so precious and time well spent!

Happy, Happy, Happy.....

Well, it's officially the last day of November and I have accomplished nothing at all for the Holidays. No decorations up, no baking done, no presents have been bought, no holiday cards have been sent..not even signed nor addressed for that matter! So much to do, but in the meantime we have several December birthdays in the family that must be celebrated first! My focus is on the birthday kids for now. So instead of Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, it's Happy Birthday for some of my favorite little nieces and nephews!  I'm loving the personalized tees and bags from Zoey's Attic and I know the kiddos would love them too.  I especially love Zoey's dinosaur shirts and my niece is a huge fan of Sue, the dinosaur.  Ever since she saw Sue at the Field Museum in Chicago my niece has been enamored with her, the best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex ever! So I'm getting this adorable shirt and having it customized by removing the "Big Sister" text and replacing it with my niece's and Sue's names and adding a few colorful hairbows too. Then I have a nephew turning two and he is a lover of trucks, all trucks!  His favorite truck is the fire truck.  Zoey's Attic has just the tee for him too. I'll have the "Big Brother" text changed to Birthday Boy and it will be the perfect gift for my sweet little nephew! My little baby girl is getting ready to turn one. (I honestly can't believe it!) I knew the time would fly by, but it really happened in a blink! Anyway, in honor of this momentous occasion, I thought Zoey's Attic could use a line of t-shirts for the birthday girls and boys. Here is the first in what I hope will be many new birthday girl and birthday boy designs. What do you guys think about these? I'd love to hear what you did to make the first birthday special and any ideas or suggestions you may have for me!
