Time To Send Holiday Greetings!

Yikes! There are just a little over 5 weeks until Christmas and I need to start thinking about whether or not I will send holiday cards this year! I typically purchase my Christmas and New Year greeting cards when they're on sale at the end of the previous year's holiday season. I really then have no plausible excuse the following year not to send them. However, as the holidays quickly approach and the days get busier with Thanksgiving, decorating our home inside and out, shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts, the seemingly endless task of wrapping, cookie baking, school parties, work parties, oh and of course my real job (the one that pays me!) my grand plan seems to fall apart! Oh my, it's exhausting just thinking about what all I need to accomplish within the upcoming weeks!

Anyway, what actually happens every year is that I decide prioritize my tasks. To lighten the load, sending holiday cards is moved to the bottom of the list of things to do before Christmas. Then the first of the holiday greetings almost always arrives around Thanksgiving and more cards fill the mailbox each day thereafter. The guilt sets in and I feel the need to send our holiday greetings to family and friends. I actually love sending and receiving Christmas and New Years cards. I have been in love with Zoey's Attic for a couple of years now. They have much more than just t-shirts, although they do have shirts for literally every occasion! The people who work there are simply fantastic. Great, fast communication about every order! 

Several months ago, it came to my attention that they had a new Mother/Daughter t-shirt set. I instantly knew that I just had to have it! It is so cute. So I asked if I could review it. 

My 4.5 year old daughter and I have worn this set together at least four separate times now. The first time we wore it, we got several comments about how adorable of a saying we had on our shirts! I always answered with, "Thanks, I agree!". 

Typically, when we have ordered shirts from Zoey's Attic previously, we have always gotten the organic shirts for my daughter. Because the adult sizes aren't available in the organic and I wanted us to match, we had the grey shirts used instead. The blue and black inks look nice on the grey shirts! 

The only issue I have had with these has been my shirt. The length is perfect, the width across my chest is great, too, however, the sleeves are a bit awkward. The lower half of the sleeve is shorter than the upper half. Therefore, the sleeve gets kind of snagged sometimes and gets stuck halfway up my arm which is just weird. So I give it a little tug to pull it back down.

I have washed these shirts at least four times and every time they have come out of the dryer perfectly. They haven't shrunk at all. The inks still look great. The shirts don't look faded or anything. 

Overall, we are mostly pleased with this set!

Remembering Your Grandparents

 

My grandmother moved into her house in 1929,  and I have the most amazing memories of family times spent with her in this home. My Grandmother (everyone called her "Goggie") cared for all her grandchildren whenever asked whether it was watching over us when a new sibling arrived or squeezing fresh orange juice for us when we were sick and Mom had to work.  We celebrated birthdays and holidays year after year in her home on Hanley Rd. Now it has sadly been many, many years since Goggie's passing and the house was sold. My siblings and cousins often reminisce of those days so long ago and have always said how much we'd love to once again step into the home that was the site of so many joyous occasions.  Good news...our wish came true! Unbeknownst to any of us until recently, my niece is actually friends with the young man who currently lives in my Grandmother's home!  Although my niece has been in this home many times, she had absolutely no idea this was the house her own Grandmother and Great-Grandmother had lived in many years ago.  Her friend graciously invited us to visit and what an awesome visit it was!  The rooms were every bit as spacious as I had remembered.  It was almost surreal to step into the closet with the window as this was always a favorite spot for the girls to gather.  It contained a shelf full of Barbie dolls and trunks full of dress up clothes.  The light fixtures in the entry and also in the breakfast nook were the original ones that I remember as a child.  I had forgotten about the glass crystal door knobs on all the closet doors.  And here they were, and it made me think about how many of my relatives had actually turned these knobs in the years past. My Grandmother's home was a home filled with love and laughter, and these special memories I have will always be a part of me.  National Grandparents Day began in the United States in 1978, the year my Goggie passed away.  Even though we didn't have an official day to celebrate Grandparents back then, I hope she always felt our love and appreciation. Let's just be honest here. We all know as our families grow, our

Thankful For Grandparents!

Did you know that Grandparents Day will be celebrated in the U.S. on Sunday, September 9th?  It was proclaimed a national holiday in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter. The idea was conceived in 1970 by a West Virginia housewife, Marian McQuade. Through her efforts statewide, the United States Congress passed legislation to proclaim the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. September was chosen as the month to celebrate our beloved Grandparents because it is a month representative of the "autumn years" of life. A special day to recognize Grandparents is also set aside in several other countries throughout the world. For example, it is celebrated each year in Canada on the second Sunday of September. In Australia, Queensland was the first state to officially celebrate Grandparents Day on the first Sunday in November 2010. Several European nations also set aside a special day to honor Grandparents. France celebates the first Sunday of March, Italy on October 2nd, and the U.K. recognizes Grandparents on the first Sunday of October.
