Father's Day Shipping Schedule

It's almost Father's Day! Only 12 more days and we want to be sure you have the bestest gifts ever for Dad and Grandpa in time for their special day! Here is the latest on our Father's Day processing and shipping schedule: our U.S. customers can order your Father's Day gifts through Sunday, June 12th with BASIC shipping thereby avoiding additional upgraded shipping costs. Unfortunately, the international shipping deadline for Father's Day has already passed. Starting Monday, June 13th, you will need to select PRIORITY or EXPRESS processing and shipping at checkout to receive your order in time for the Father's Day celebration. Then as of Wednesday, June 15th you must upgrade to EXPRESS shipping for delivery of your gifts before Father's Day. You can still order with Express shipping on Thursday, June 16th, but we are so sorry we cannot at that time guarantee a Father's Day delivery even with this upgraded shipping method. We are processing and shipping all Father's Day gifts and personalized shirts as fast as we possibly can, but the one thing for sure is that we can't control the speed of the U.S. Postal Service. All orders placed with BASIC shipping after Sunday, June 12th will be processed and shipped in the order we receive them and unfortunately with BASIC shipping we are not able to guarantee your order will arrive in time for Father's Day so please consider a shipping upgrade at checkout to ensure arrival of Dad and Grandpa's custom gifts before June 19th. Father's Day is Sunday, June 19th. What are your Father's Day traditions? Our weekend customarily begins on Saturday with a family luncheon date at Bogarts Smokehouse. This is Dad's favorite barbeque restaurant! If you are ever in the St. Louis area you MUST stop here! Bogart's made YELP's top 100 restaurants in the U.S. in 2015. The ribs and brisket (really everything!) are my family's favorites!

Dad loves all things sports and especially baseball and hockey! Really though who doesn't love the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues? Hopefully the St. Louis Blues will be the 2016 Stanley Cup champions when Father's Day rolls around this year! Now that would be super exciting as we have never won the Stanley Cup in our almost 50 year history! And you would think he would want to spend Father's Day at a Cardinal baseball game. Surprisingly his request each year is to have a family outing at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. It is a place of scenic beauty and enticingly fragrant aromas. The Garden also has a working flower and vegetable garden with educational facilities too. Docents are always available with the answers to your gardening questions.

First Father's Day

I fondly remember my husband's First Father's Day. We spent the day at one of his favorite places to visit, the Missouri Botanical Garden. It was a delightful June day in St. Louis, not as oppressively warm as it usually is on Father's Day. While touring the flowering gardens, an elderly woman also enjoying the magnificent colors and fragrant scents of Shaw's Garden approached my husband and wished him a happy Father's Day. Then she also told him his daughter was more beautiful than any of the flowers in the garden. My husband, on this his very First Father's Day, beamed with pride! I was so thankful for the encounter with this woman (unknown to us) for adding to the joy of his special day. Her kind words have held a cherished place in our hearts ever since that very 1st Father's Day. So if you ever have an opportunity to make someone feel extra special...just do it! Remembering Your Grandparents

 

My grandmother moved into her house in 1929,  and I have the most amazing memories of family times spent with her in this home. My Grandmother (everyone called her "Goggie") cared for all her grandchildren whenever asked whether it was watching over us when a new sibling arrived or squeezing fresh orange juice for us when we were sick and Mom had to work.  We celebrated birthdays and holidays year after year in her home on Hanley Rd. Now it has sadly been many, many years since Goggie's passing and the house was sold. My siblings and cousins often reminisce of those days so long ago and have always said how much we'd love to once again step into the home that was the site of so many joyous occasions.  Good news...our wish came true! Unbeknownst to any of us until recently, my niece is actually friends with the young man who currently lives in my Grandmother's home!  Although my niece has been in this home many times, she had absolutely no idea this was the house her own Grandmother and Great-Grandmother had lived in many years ago.  Her friend graciously invited us to visit and what an awesome visit it was!  The rooms were every bit as spacious as I had remembered.  It was almost surreal to step into the closet with the window as this was always a favorite spot for the girls to gather.  It contained a shelf full of Barbie dolls and trunks full of dress up clothes.  The light fixtures in the entry and also in the breakfast nook were the original ones that I remember as a child.  I had forgotten about the glass crystal door knobs on all the closet doors.  And here they were, and it made me think about how many of my relatives had actually turned these knobs in the years past. My Grandmother's home was a home filled with love and laughter, and these special memories I have will always be a part of me.  National Grandparents Day began in the United States in 1978, the year my Goggie passed away.  Even though we didn't have an official day to celebrate Grandparents back then, I hope she always felt our love and appreciation. Thankful For Grandparents!

Did you know that Grandparents Day will be celebrated in the U.S. on Sunday, September 9th?  It was proclaimed a national holiday in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter. The idea was conceived in 1970 by a West Virginia housewife, Marian McQuade. Through her efforts statewide, the United States Congress passed legislation to proclaim the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. September was chosen as the month to celebrate our beloved Grandparents because it is a month representative of the "autumn years" of life. A special day to recognize Grandparents is also set aside in several other countries throughout the world. For example, it is celebrated each year in Canada on the second Sunday of September. In Australia, Queensland was the first state to officially celebrate Grandparents Day on the first Sunday in November 2010. Several European nations also set aside a special day to honor Grandparents. France celebates the first Sunday of March, Italy on October 2nd, and the U.K. recognizes Grandparents on the first Sunday of October.
