Guess What? I'm going to be a big sister.

We were looking for a unique twist on the big sister to be shirts that are already some of our biggest sellers. So, where did we go? Straight to the source themselves: the big sisters to be. We asked how they would tell their family and friends that they were going to be a big sister. Overwhelmingly, we heard, "guess what" . They turned it into knock knock jokes, too, but that's for another t-shirt and another blog entry.

So, while we're still working on the big brother guess what, here is what we came up with for big sisters: (we've already sold more than a handful in less than a week - i think this one might be a big hit!)

Check 'em all out on our big sister to be page now!

National Grandparent's Day - September 9th

I've always loved Grandparent's day. I think it's such a great idea - of course we have mother's and father's day, but grandparent's day is a great way to pay tribute to our grandmas, grandpas, nanas, papas, or whatever name you call those special people who looked after you, played with you, baked brownies or tossed footballs - your grandparents!

Did you know?

Grandparent's day is always the Sunday after Labor Day. So, this year, Grandparent's day falls on September 9th, 2007.

This year grandparent's day has double meaning for me as it is not only a day in which I can celebrate my grandparents, but now my parent's are grandparents and I can use this day as a way to reflect on how much they've helped me out this past year as I got used to becoming a parent myself. I can give them a present (from babygirl of course) and show them just how much I appreciate the babysitting hours, food preparation and just general support they've given me and the babygirl over their first year as grandparents.

I found an interesting website on grandparent's day:

National Grandparent's Day Website - This gives a little background information on why the day was created. Actually, it wasn't until the mid-70's when a housewife named Marian McQuade decided to push for the creation of grandparent's day. Her main purpose was to help lonely elderly in nursing homes and help young children to gain a better appreciation for the wisdom and heritage provided by their grandparents.

Have any fun ideas about what to do for your grandparents or your parents from your kids? Let us know about them. If we use your idea, we'll send you a free t-shirt (perfect for giving as a gift for grandparents day!) :)

Here are some things I thought might be cute to give as gifts to the special grandma and grandpa in your life. Also, if you're looking for a good time to announce a pregnancy, this grandparent's day might just be perfect! Imagine surprising the grandma or grandpa to be with a present from his or her future grandson or granddaughter!

Bun in the Oven T-shirt and Pregnancy Announcement Idea

When I was pregnant with my first baby (the same one that is about to turn 1 in two weeks!) I was trying to find a funny, cute way to tell my husband that we would be expecting a baby. Even before we decided to have a baby or even talked about getting pregnant, we used to always joke about "bun in the oven"... not sure why, but we did.

When it came time to announce my pregnancy to him, I did so by placing an actual hot dog bun in the oven and then printed out a sign that said "Tim, open me". After walking in and out of the kitchen numerous times again and again without noticing the sign and with me about to DIE of nervousness/excitement, etc. I couldn't take it anymore and marched right in there and pointed to the sign. It took a second but he opened the oven to find the bun and a card I had put in there and just said slightly dumbfounded, "no... no... really?"... don't get me wrong he was thrilled, just overly shocked and emotional. It was such a fun memory for us, I bought (before I had this site and store) a t-shirt that said just very plain "bun in the oven" - it took forever to find it and I couldn't find one I liked, so since starting this store I have of course made a few for purchase. I think they are just funny cute t-shirts, but also make for great surprise pregnancy announcements for first time parents and repeat offenders alike.

Here's my newest bun in the oven design for t-shirts and gifts: click here to see them all.

Anybody else use something like this? If so, how did you tell the exciting bun news?

Grandpa to Be Baseball T- Shirt

I have a friend whose dad is a HUGE baseball fan. I mean his basement would work as a double if Cooperstown ever needed a stand-in. Well, due to this fact when she found out she was pregnant with a little "future hall-of-fame baseball player", her dad was over the moon. In fact, when she was only about 3 months pregnant, he showed her the little baby baseball mit and bat he had already purchased for his future grandson.

So, knowing about Zoey's Attic and my propensity to design practically anything that someone asks me for, she phoned me up and asked if I could make a "subtle yet cute" grandpa-to-be t-shirt that had a little baseball feel. She wanted to give it to him as a birthday / grandpa to be gift. Of course - I could! Here is the subtle, yet too cute not to wear t-shirt we designed for a special grandpa to be:

Since then, I've had a lot of people tell me that this is perfect for the future grandpas in their lives. I had one customer use it for a pregnancy announcement at the baseball game. How cute is that? She and her husband took her parents to the baseball game and gave them grandpa to be and grandma to be t-shirts as they were routing their beloved Braves on to victory. I thought that was such a fun and unique way of telling them she was pregnant.

Don't forget, I love to collect unique and fun pregnancy announcement ideas. If we use them we'll send you a FREE t-shirt of your choice, so send me them now, internet friends!

New look for Zoey the Zebra

After much debate over who/what Zoey would be and look like, we have settled on this cute little guy. We knew Zoey was a Zebra because of our naming history, but we were looking for the perfect Zoey look. We think this Zoey is just cute and funny enough to best represent our style. What do you guys think about our new Zoey? Hopefully you will be a big fan, too! Here is our "official" new Zoey's Attic logo!:

Cute t-shirts for the Birthday Girl!

My little baby girl is getting ready to turn one. (I honestly can't believe it!) I knew the time would fly by, but it really happened in a blink! Anyway, in honor of this momentous occasion, I thought Zoey's Attic could use a line of t-shirts for the birthday girls and boys. Here is the first in what I hope will be many new birthday girl and birthday boy designs. What do you guys think about these? I'd love to hear what you did to make the first birthday special and any ideas or suggestions you may have for me!

I also designed a first birthday invitation to match for the first birthday girl. I think these are too cute and may keep designing more of these so that you could have a matching theme that matched the t-shirts, stickers, thank you notes, etc for the big party.

Big brother race car

What a great suggestion -race cars! I've been wanting to add this for a while, but it took a great big brother shopper to actually request this design to get me into gear. Especially with the Nascar Race in my hometown of St. Louis this weekend, we are in race car mode.

This cute big, bigger and biggest brother design features race flags and a cute "kid" style race car. Here's a sample of the big brother design:

Thanks again for great suggestions and keep 'em coming. We love to hear from you and want to know what we can do to make our site continually better and growing!

Trendy vs. traditional gifts for the big sister and brother

I just added these new big sister and big brother designs over the weekend and already it has become a big best seller. This look is definitely the new trend in t-shirts and design these days. The grunge font can be found everywhere from t-shirts to signs, billboards and I even saw it on my local news promo yesterday. So, of course Zoey's Attic is here to make sure you have only the hippest, trendiest of items for your kids. We have big brothers, big sisters t-shirts and gifts all made up in this trendy font.

Of course, if you're more of a traditionalist, never fear, of course we have classic and clean designs that never go out of fashion. We even just added some cute (at least I think so) varsity designs. Actually, my husband was the brain behind the university big sister t-shirt. Of course, all of these designs are also available for the little and middle brother and sister, too!

What do you like better? Are you more a traditionalist or trend setter?

That's my dad, daddy dad dad

This year, Father's Day is a double whammy for me. As I get set to think about a present for my dad, for the first time my husband is a dad, so I'm in new territory - husband's father's day presents. I actually have a great idea, but I can't post it here for obvious reading reasons, but it is tricky to find great Father's day gift ideas that are unique but also desired - read: a dog playing poker tie is unique, but is it desired?

Anyway, happy father's day to all those dad's out there. We've created a fun father's day line of t-shirts that we think make great add-on gifts or just gifts in general! To start, here's one of our favorite dad t-shirts:
Some other fun ones are from the simplistic dad line, here is my favorite - since this was my dad's big thing:

new big sister/big brother collection

big sister and big brother t shirts and gifts are all the rage these days. i can understand it, even though i only have one child at the moment, you better believe the second there is another one on the way, i will plaster my daughter in big sister and "going to be a big sister" t shirts and apparel! so far, one of my meant to be kind of funny designs seems to be taking off the best. it's the "i'm the big sister/princess design." it's available for all places - little/middle or big and basically just plays off the princess angle.

here's a preview of what i mean:

an easter egg announcement

we were getting a lot of search engine requests for "easter pregnancy announcements" so we decided to oblige the public!

we think this is one of the cutest designs to date for a surprise big sister pregnancy announcement. on the front there is a cute little chick surrounded by easter eggs and the message below says, "this chick has an easter surprise..." on the back you see the same chick image but now one of the eggs has hatched and a little chick-let is popping his head out and the message is "i'm going to be a big sister". too cute! we're sure this will rapidly become a seasonal best seller.

more and more we are seeing requests for pregnancy announcements around holidays. after all, what better fun and unique way to announce a new member of the family when you are surrounded by family at a holiday gathering. we will be adding to our seasonal collection of pregnancy announcements and be sure to keep providin unique ways for announcing a new baby on the way over the next few weeks. we're sure this isn't the only cute easter pregnancy announcement we've got hidden up our sleeve (or in an egg)!

creative pregnancy announcements

i have to do better at keeping up with all the new stuff happening with zoey's attic! i could easily feature some great new stuff everyday, but i'm just too busy working on great new stuff! we are definitely "growing" (punn intended) in our pregnancy announcements and announcing pregnancy departments EVERY day! it is rapidly becoming our biggest seller and i think for good reason - these are adorable, unique and creative ways to announce pregnancy - something i know i couldn't find good information on just last year at this time.

so, here are two of our cute new t-shirts in the "i have a secret" line of "going to be a big brother/sister" apparel and gifts.

one tough cookie

Okay, I think this shirt is pretty self-explanatory. Inspired by my "tough" babygirl, I created a "one tough cookie" baby tee. There is also a brother shirt entitled smart cookie... clever, I know...

Anyway, my husband thinks that is not self-explanatory and that no one will "get it". So, I'm posing the question to you all... do you get it? We (and when I say we, I guess I mean Zoey and me?...) think tough cookies are awesome and you should definitely show them off with cool tough cookie apparel...What do you guys think? Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts/ideas!

pregnancy announcements - who knew?

We've been getting a lot of hits from people searching for "Pregnancy Announcement Greeting Cards". I guess it's a new thing to send out cards to people expecting a baby. It is a cute idea to surprise your more distant friends and family with a little announcement. Well, anyway, the people spoke and Zoey listened! Here is one of our new announcing pregnancy greeting cards:

They are even personalized with the month of your special arrival. We have every due month available and we can even personalize them with the due date. Great idea for the mom to be!

who's making money?

Libby! She gave us this great idea of adding the train to one of our top selling "big brother/big sister apparel and gifts". Within one day of posting Libby's idea, we had already sold one and to date we've sold about 8 different train shirts. They've been active for about 9 days so she is almost averaging one a day!

Way to go libby - here is the design:

This design features a classic front and back layout. On the front, with bright and primary colors, text reads "I have a secret..." while your little one can turn around to show off the secret that "I'm going to be a big brother". A great way to announce pregnancy and make your little one feel special at the same time!
